July 2017

The Golf Season is in full swing.  Our Men’s June Invitational has come and gone.  Congratulations to Rich Yohe and his partner Anthony Martini for winning this coveted title.

I also wanted to congratulate Past ECC Junior Club Champion Jacob Watt Morse for his stellar play this spring while finishing his college golf career at Williams College in Massachusetts.  He was a co-captain of the Williams College golf team.   His team recently won the Division III NESCAC Conference Championship where Jacob finished 3rd individually.  This qualified them for the Division III National Championship played in Florida.

At the National Championship, Williams became the team ever from their Conference to make the cut at Nationals and ended the event finishing 14th overall.  He also had 2 other top 10 finishes this spring individually.  Jacob, we here at ECC are proud of your accomplishments both on and off the course.

Just a reminder, we will once again be hosting an August Men’s Invitational tournament this summer.  The 2017 Men's August Invitational will be conducted on August 10th – 12th.  The event will be open to 48 teams split into separate flights based on total team handicap.  Members may sign up for this event via email (pmicklewright@eccgolf.com).

July brings the start of our Junior Golf Program.  Play Days and clinics will be starting.  The Golf Staff has been working hard to modify and improve our Junior Golf Program.  Our intent is to introduce your children to a great sport they can play for the rest of their lives.  The goals we have are two fold.  First, we will make golf a fun and safe activity for the kids.  Second, we will provide sound instruction on the fundamentals, rules, and etiquette of golf.  For a list of dates or more information, please contact the Golf Shop.

New merchandise is still coming into the Golf Shop as we speak.  Stop in and check out the latest lines from Tail, Cutter and Buck,  Peter Millar, and Straight Down just to name a few.

The lesson tee has been busy.  Mike, Steve, Tommy and I are available for private or group lessons.  We will put your swing on video and let you see for yourself the quickest way to improve.

Have you signed up for our Pro member yet?  If not, time is running out.  Very few spaces remain in this event which has sold out every single year.  The event will be played Wednesday July 19th.  Please contact the golf shop if you would like to play.

We have several new events planned for July as well including the new 2 Person Family Challenge on July 3rd at 1:30 PM and the Men’s Ryder Cup on July 15th.  This new family event is open at all ECC members and their family regardless of their membership status who have established Handicaps.  Teams can consist of any two family members.  Husband and wife, mother and son, father and son, father and daughter, Uncle and nephew, cousin and cousin, etc…  The only team requirement is you must be related to be a team.  The format is a 1 best ball of 2 using 100% handicap.

For the Men’s Ryder Cup on July 15th, our Assistant Golf Professionals Mike and Steve will be the team captains.  A draft will be held at 6:30 PM Wednesday night July 12th on the Vista Patio.  You do not need to be present to play in the event.  All players are invited to attend this fun filled evening to see what team they will be playing for. The golf will be held Saturday morning July 15th with a 9:00 AM shotgun.  This event is open to All Resident, Intermediate, and J2 members.  Sign up as an individual.  Teams and Pairings will be done based on the draft results on Wednesday evening with the two lowest handicapped players from one team competing against the two lowest from the other team.  The two highest handicapped players from one team will compete against the two highest from the other team.

The event will be a better ball of partners match play with one point awarded for the front nine and one point for the back nine. The team with the most overall points will be the winner.  The overall losing team will be responsible for paying for the overall winning team’s lunch.

July brings many other exciting events for the membership to compete in at their home club.  Events like the Independence Open, Family Golf Day, Ladies Senior Championship and Yenny Club Championship, Mixed Invitational, Men’s Senior Club Championship, Parent-Child Chapman , Husband-Wife Championship,  and the ECC Pro Member will all be played this month.  Now is the time to sign up for any or all of these events.

Finally wait to you hear about the new ECC Carnival on Friday evening July 28th.  If you ever wanted to put me in a dunk tank and watch me get soaked, that night will be your chance.  This is just one of many things planned for that evening.  More details to follow….

As always, the Golf Staff is here to service you.  If you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to ask.  We will see you at the club.
