November 2018

November brings cooler weather and a change in the amount of daylight.  Starting November 1st, the Golf Shop will now be open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  On weekends, the shop will be open from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  The Golf Shop will be closed on Mondays and also on Thanksgiving Day.  The Driving Range is officially closed for the year.

New for this year, we will keep posting scores thru November 14th for rounds played in the north. We used to stop on November 1st, but the season to post in Western PA has been extended 2 weeks this year by the West Penn Golf Association.  Those players traveling south are still expected to post all rounds played at locations still considered “in-season” throughout the entire winter.

Greens fees and guest rules are now at off-season prices and policies.  This truly makes Edgewood the best deal in town.  Bring your friends, your relatives, or your co-workers out for a round to showcase your country club.  Also for those of you with Advanced Purchase Guest Fees, just a reminder, these do expire on December 31, 2018.  Any passes not used by that date will be lost.

Once again, we are asking members to make tee times for the off season months.  Tee times will still be required on Tuesday through Sunday.  You will be able to book weekday times two weeks in advance and weekend times on Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM.   The weather has been great in November the past several years.  There are still plenty of golf rounds to be played.

I wanted to congratulate Adam Pechart who was our 2018 Donald Ross Cup Winner.  Like the Fed Ex Cup on the PGA Tour, the Donald Ross Cup allows players to accumulate points in every event of the season.  Winning the Donald Ross Cup requires consistent and stellar play for the entire season.  Adam won the Fourball, the Labor Day Draft event, and Closing Day to help him capture this coveted title.  He also finished 2nd in the US Open at Edgewood event.

I wanted to wish the best of luck to ECC Assistant Golf Professional Tommy Jones who will be leaving Edgewood to work full time as the Tournament Director at the Bonita Bay Club in Florida.  Tommy did 2 internships here at the club and then worked for 2 seasons as our 3rd Assistant.  He did a fantastic job in all the behind the scene work setting up events and making sure our Monday parties ran smoothly.  Best of luck on the next step in your career.

Taking Tommy’s place next year will be Brian Lutton.  Brian will be a familiar face to many of you as he did two summer internships here in 2015-16.  He is currently finishing his final internship at famed Pebble Beach in California and will graduate from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore this December.  Brian will start here around April 1st, 2019.

All of the new fall merchandise is available in the golf shop.   New lines from Levelwear, Peter Millar, and Straight Down have recently arrived.  The Holidays are fast approaching.  It is never too early to begin shopping!!!  As always, gift wrapping at Edgewood is done free of charge for anything purchased in the golf shop. Plus there are no lines to wait in unlike your favorite stores at the mall.

Have a great month and see you at the club.
