Golf fever is in the air. Come on out to your club and get a few rounds in on a course that is in fanatic shape. Upcoming June events include the Mixed Nuts and Bolts, Family Golf Day, the June Invitational, Twilight Golf, Grandmother’s Championship, the Jamison Cup, Ladies Flag Day, and the High Rollers Par 3 Challenge just to name a few. Plus our 9 Hole Ladies events will keep going every Tuesday night and our Young Member events will happen each Thursday evening.
All of the events above are for our more experienced golfers. We have not forgotten about our members with little to no golf experience. Golf is truly a sport that can last a lifetime. New golfers get introduced to the game every day. The Golf Professional Staff here at Edgewood knows that and has designed a golf school package just for these members.
This school is designed for the player with little to no golf experience. Each week, the basics will be covered from start to finish. Each session will be designed to introduce a new aspect of the game. The topics covered will include full swing, chipping, putting, bunker play, USGA rules, and proper etiquette while on the golf course.
It does not matter if you have golf clubs yet. Bring your own clubs if you have them or borrow some from the Golf Shop Staff. Come out and let us show you the basic fundamentals to playing this wonderful game.
The dates of this Beginner Golf School School will be:
Sunday, June 4th 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Sunday, June 11th 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Sunday, June 18th 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Sunday, June 25th 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
The cost of this school is $100 per person. This includes 4 hours of instruction and club rentals if needed. There is a maximum of 12 students. This school promises to be a great learning experience and also a lot of fun. Plus, it will serve as a great way to meet some new faces and future “practice buddies” here at Edgewood.
The 5th Annual Men's August Invitational will be conducted from August 10th - 12th. It is open to all Resident and Intermediate Members. We will start the festivities with a Thursday optional Practice Round Shotgun at 1:30 PM. This event will be followed Thursday evening by the Opening Stag Dinner.
The August Invitational will be open to 48 teams split equally into separate flights based on total team handicap. The winning team in each flight will be determined by the two day better ball of partner’s net score. A shootout will be held afterwards to determine the overall winner.
The cost of the event will be $925 per team. This fee includes a tremendous tee gift for each player, 2 event dinners (one with the spouses), 2 lunches, 1 breakfast, gratuities, greens fees (not including cart or caddie fees),Thursday prizes, overall prizes, and a few additional surprises including a brand new band for the dinner.
Completed entries must be EMAILED (email@example.com), hand delivered, mailed (Edgewood Golf Shop, 100 Churchill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235) or faxed (412-829-2776) to the Golf Shop. The first 48 entries received will make up the field for this event.
June brings the start of our junior golf program. While the official play days are still a month away, the Golf Staff will start conducting Tuesday evening clinics for the kids beginning June 6th. These will run from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM every Tuesday from June 6th through August 8th. The cost is $20 per session. However, if your child signs up for our summer Junior program, he/she can attend one of these clinic days free of charge. To sign up for the clinics or the summer program, please contact the Golf Shop for a complete schedule.
One of the key parts of my job is establishing quality lines of communication between the golf shop and the membership. Each Tuesday, I send out an email to the membership containing information on the upcoming events and course happenings. That email covers any upcoming golf events, golf outings, membership tournaments, and course closings. I design the email to only take one minute or so to read. This email will provide you the answers to our most popular questions asked on a daily basis, “What’s going on here today”? That quick read can also save each and every member from being in the awkward position of setting up a game in advance with other members or guests and finding out about an event happening at the club where your ideal tee time is not available.
The lesson tee has been busy. Mike, Steve, Tommy, and I are available for private or group lessons. We will put your swing on video and let you see for yourself the quickest way to improve.
To sign up for our beginner golf school or for more information on any of the events listed above, please contact the Golf Shop Staff at (412) 823-2220. Even more than ever, there is something for all ages and skill levels within our golf program. Come on out and see for yourself. We will see you at the club!
