Fall weather is finally upon us. With the change in climate comes football season. Just because the Steelers and all of our local colleges are playing does not mean golf stops at Edgewood. Off season guest fees go into effect starting October 1st. There has never been a better time to bring out some friends and family for a casual round and showcase “your club.”
Just a reminder, the Fairways will be aerated on September 20th – 21st and the Greens will be aerated September 26th – 28th . The golf course and driving range will be closed these 5 days. Golf Shop hours will be 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM on the days the course is closed for aeration.
For those members with Advanced Purchase Guest Passes, Course Renovation Guest Passes, or new Member Recruitment Guest Passes remaining, these do expire on December 31, 2017. Any of these passes not used by then will be lost.
The Golf Shop hours for the month of October will be 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM six days per week. If there is nobody on the course, the shop will close at 6:00 PM. The driving range will be open Tuesday through Sunday 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM.
The Golf Shop, Driving Range, and Bag Room will be closed on Mondays. The course will be open for walking only on Mondays when the golf shop is closed. The only exceptions to this are Monday, October 9th and Monday, October 16th where we have a large Monday outing each day. The course will open for walking at 5:00 PM these days.
Please keep in mind, the golf course we will be running an 8:00 AM Shotgun for the members on Sunday, October 8th. This will be the third straight year of doing this as we have the Holly Alm Charity Golf Classic starting at 12:30 that afternoon. This event has over 110 players and over 250 people for dinner later that evening at Edgewood. The course will reopen for member play around 5:30 PM that evening.
We will also host our 3rd Annual ECC Champions and Hole in One Club Dinner on Wednesday October 18th. This night is FREE for all our members currently in the Hole in One Club. It will honor all of our event champions from the season and all members who made a hole in one this year. The free cocktails and heavy appetizers begin at 6:30PM and the awards ceremony starts at 7:15PM. Please contact Becky Abaray if you plan to attend. More details will come via email later this month.
All of the new fall merchandise is available in the golf shop. New lines from Levelwear, Peter Millar, and Straight Down have recently arrived. It is never too early to start thinking about the Holiday Season.
Finally I want to congratulate Assistant Golf Professional, Mike Frisina for qualifying for the National Assistants Championship for the 2nd straight year. He shot 74-74 at South Hills Country Club to finish in 3rd place at the Tri-State Section Assistants Championship. With this finish, Mike qualified for the National Assistants Championship played at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida from November 9-12. The top 3 players from each Section qualified for the National event.
This is his 2nd straight year of qualifying for this event. Having qualified for this national event when I was an Assistant in New Jersey, I know how challenging it is to even qualify to participate. It is a great honor for him and also for Edgewood.
Later this month, I am going to hold a special “Mike Frisina” 50/50 raffle. All the money raised will help Mike pay to compete and represent Edgewood Country Club in this National Championship. These costs include airfare, car rental, meals, and tournament fees to name a few. More details will follow along with directions on how to enter this raffle.
I hope everyone is ready for the fall and I look forward to seeing you at Edgewood.
