I must start by saying effective March 1st, the Golf Shop is back open for business. While the cold weather of winter still hovers over us, I amhopeful spring is right around the corner. 2018 plans to be an exciting year of Golf here at Edgewood with many new and exciting events planned.
Over the next couple of weeks, numerous informational emails will be sent to the membership. As the club continues to build its email address list, these emails will provide a great deal of information on upcoming Golf events at Edgewood. A week or so ago, you should have received the 2018 Golf Calendar via email. This document provides the actual dates of each event during the golf season. Sign up sheets are generally posted about a month before the event date.
Other documents being emailed in March will be the Junior Golf Program information and sign up form including our new Junior Golf Camps, Advanced Purchase Guest Fee Information (see this ECCO for more info on these), Ladies Only Clinics, Short Game School Information, the “Knock off the Rust” clinic, and the ever popular “Join the Titleist, Taylor Made, or Callaway Staff” discount golf ball program. This May, we will also do a beginner golf school for those members looking to learn the game (the April ECCO will have more info on this program). If you have any questions or would like an actual paper copy of these forms, please stop into the Golf Shop and we will gladly print one for you.
The March Golf Shop hours will be Tuesday through Sunday from 8:00 -5:00. If there are golfers playing that day, the shop will close when the last players are off the course. The Golf Shop will be closed on Mondays and the Driving Range will open for the season on Saturday, March 31st.
Our Spring Golf Course Aeration is scheduled from Monday, March 19th through Thursday, March 22rd. In the event of bad weather, the make up dates will be the following week. During aeration, the course will be closed for all play.
The entry form for the 2018 Men’s June Invitational will be emailed to the membership on March 1st. Completed entries may be EMAILED (email@example.com), hand delivered, mailed (Edgewood Golf Shop, 100 Churchill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235) or faxed (412-829-2776) to the Golf Shop. No telephone entries will be accepted. Applications will be accepted and acknowledged by the Club starting on March 1st.
The cost of the event will be $950 per team. This fee includes an impressive tee gift for each player, enhanced meal selections, Thursday practice round prizes, Friday skins game, automatic entry into the Flight Pool Shootout, gratuities, greens fees (not including cart or caddie fees), and prizes.
The entry deadline is Thursday, March 15th. The field will be set based on the same system we used last year on March 16th. If you played in last year’s event as a member, you are guaranteed a space in this year’s event assuming your entry is received by the deadline. At that time a wait list will be created for anyone that does not get into this year’s event. All entries received after the deadline will be placed at the bottom of the wait list.
All the latest equipment is currently arriving into the Golf Shop. This year we will have full custom fitting carts from Callaway, Taylor Made, Titleist, Cobra, and Ping. We will also have a huge presence with upstart company PXG this year. We will host 5 of their demo days with the first one being April 13th. As always, our prices will not be beat here at Edgewood. We will match any big box store’s advertised prices and provide a free club fitting and smile to go with those prices.
Starting March 1st, we ask that you please make a tee time if you are planning on playing. Just like in years past, weekday tee times can be booked two weeks in advance and weekend tee times can be made at 6:30 PM on Tuesday night for the upcoming weekend. All weekend SWATS will start in April when the weather becomes a little more consistent.
The Golf Staff is excited about several new things that will happen this spring here at Edgewood. First we have a brand new cart fleet being delivered here March 2nd featuring USB ports on every cart. We also have a new driving range mat being installed this March before the range opens for the season.
We signed an agreement with Foretees tee sheets and phone app this winter. Once the installation is finalized you will hear a lot more from me about this product. It is going to simplify how you sign up for events and how you book tee times here at the club. And wait until you hear about the new Rover automated caddies that will be arriving this spring (more on that in the future).
Finally, I wanted to provide an update on my 2018 golf staff. You will see many familiar faces on the golf staff this year. Steve Matthews returns for his 16th year as our Outside Operations Manager. Mike Frisina, Steve Flash, and Tommy Jones will also be back for their 4th season as the ECC Assistant Golf Professionals. Jesse Cantley, who served as a PGM intern last year, will be back as well in a similar role.
Please contact the Golf Shop to register for any of the clinics mentioned or if you have any questions regarding the upcoming Golf Season. We will see you at the club!!!
