May 2018

Spring is here and the golf season is officially underway.  Hopefully the April snow showers are a thing of the past at this point.

Have you signed up for our Foretees app yet?  If not, please do so now as booking tee times and signing up for events has never been easier.  All the info you will ever need is located on this new app and program.

The Men's August Invitational will be conducted from August 9th - 11th.  The application and event info will be emailed to the membership in mid-late May.  The event promises to be three fun filled days of golf, entertainment, and camaraderie.  More info to follow soon….

Our Young members Thursday night league is now underway again.  The Golf Committee wanted to create a weekly league atmosphere for our younger membership (42 & under give or take) to come enjoy the club and each other’s company! Starting now and going each Thursday night throughout the season, we will do a 5:45 mini shotgun for this league.

To sign up, please call the golf shop or sign up on Fore Tees by 4pm on Thursday so we can randomly pair teams. We will have a different team game each week along with great food and drink specials in the Men’s Grille afterwards.   Generally, we will do a $10 team game and also an optional $10 individual skins game.  It will be a fun and relaxed way to get to know people your age at the club while playing a team format!  We look forward to a great turnout and we hope to see everybody soon.

The first Twilight Golf of the year will be Friday, May 11th beginning at 5:00 PM.  This night will be played as a 9 hole step aside scramble with drinks available throughout the course.  Sign up as a twosome and we will pair you with two others or sign up as a foursome for these fun nights.  These are no longer couples events.  Groups can consist of 4 men, 4 women, or 2 couples.  Configure your group any way you want.  The sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside of the golf shop.  For this first twilight event, we will waive the guest fees if you want to have guests as your partners.  All players are highly encouraged to stay for dinner afterwards.

The driving range is open and the hours of operation for the month of May will be 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM.  The range will open at 7:00 AM on weekends.  Golf Lessons are now available.  If you have never seen your swing on video before, set up an appointment.  Seeing is believing and it will help your game.

All of our club fitting carts have arrived.  Demo clubs are available to use every day from Titleist, Cobra, Ping, Taylor Made, and Callaway.  The Golf Shop Staff is here to help you.  If you have any questions regarding any of the new equipment, please ask.

Our official Demo Weekend is set for Friday May 4th, Saturday May 5th, and Sunday May 6th.   From 4:00-7:00 on Friday come out and see the latest from Ping and Cobra.  Then on Saturday from 11:00-3:00, Taylor Made, Titleist, and Callaway will be here to showcase what they have to offer this season.  Finally on Sunday from 11:00 – 4:00, come try the latest products from golf upstart PXG.  Each company will have a Trackman launch monitor for computerized club fittings.  Those appointments must be scheduled in advance by contacting the golf shop directly.   Our PGA Professional staff will also be on the range each day to provide guidance and help you when you are trying the new products.

As always, I will match any store’s advertised price on golf clubs plus allow you to trade in your old clubs to further offset the cost.  Prices from Dicks and Golf Galaxy don’t scare us.  We will match their price plus provide an in depth free custom fitting with an actual PGA Professional and a smile to go with it!!!

For our members with limited to no golf experience looking to learn the game, we have something for you as well this year.  We will be running a Beginner Golf School every Saturday afternoon in May.  This 4 week class will cover all aspects of the game including full swing, chipping, putting, and rules.  It will run from 2:00 – 3:00 starting on Saturday May 5th

The cost of this Beginner Golf School is $100 per person.  This includes 4 hours of instruction and club rentals if needed.  This school promises to be a great learning experience and also a lot of fun.  Plus, it will serve as a great way to meet some new faces and future “practice buddies” here at Edgewood.     To sign up for our beginner golf school, please contact the Golf Shop Staff at (412) 823-2220.

This Memorial Day weekend, we will host our first ever Men’s “Battle for the Belts” Member-Member.  The winners of this 2 day event held the Sunday and Monday mornings of Memorial Day weekend will be crowned our champions and each receive authentic WWE style championship belts to showcase.  As wrestler Ric Flair calmly says, “To be the man, you have to beat the man.”  This tournament will allow you to become that man so to speak!  Sign up now to participate in this event.  If you need a partner, please contact the golf shop and we will do our best to pair you up with another member.

Starting Saturday May 5th, we will begin to run a ladies Saturday SWAT.  Tee times will be reserved starting at 11:30 for any of our ladies looking to play in this weekly event.  Team prizes will be done weekly and teams will be randomly drawn.  Please contact the golf shop or sign up via Foretees by Thursday each week to play in this weekly event.

Finally, I am thrilled to say we will continue our agreement and partnership between Edgewood Country Club and the Omni Bedford Springs Resort.  Last year we had many members take advantage of this great opportunity.  This deal brings two classic Donald Ross courses together in a member only agreement.  Details of the program are listed on the next page of the newsletter.  This program will allow our current ECC members discounted rates to stay and/or play at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. Everyone is always looking for that quick two day getaway.  This program will provide a great opportunity for members to get that day or two of relaxation away from Pittsburgh at a world-class facility.  Having been there several times myself, I can say it is worth every penny!  Programs like these provide yet another reason why ECC is the place to be a member. All reservations will be handled by Pete Micklewright for this program.  Please be in touch with any questions.

2018 promises to be a fun and exciting year.  Please contact the Golf Shop to register for any of the events mentioned or if you have any questions regarding the upcoming Golf Season.  As always, all info will also be available in my weekly golf newsletter delivered via email every Tuesday.  We will see you at the club!!!
